New Blog Post: New Year Resolutions 2012

Hej Everyone!

I have decided not to makle a habit of the fact I skiped my new year resolution post last year on my blog For The Hole Inside Everyone. I have compacted what I do to make it less of a hassel whilst in the midst of New Year celebrations and facing returning to work.

So if you would like to see what kind of year I’ve had or the resolutions I have for the future then you can read them here: New Year Resolutions 2012

I hope you all have a great night and a good year in 2012. I’m waiting for the non-stop fireworks show to start here. The Danes sure do love their fireworks ;-)

New Blog Post: Occupying My Mind – Thoughts On What A World Without Money Might Be Like

Hej Folks,

I’ve been following the #OccupyMovement on Google+ and something has been perculating in the back of my mind since it started and it finally decided to pop out. I’ve been working on it for the last two weeks but I think it’s ready now to put out there.

You can see it at my blog For The Hole Inside Everyone and it is called ‘Occupying My Mind – Thoughts On What A World Without Money Might Be Like’. It may seem idealistic at times but here is a quote from it explaining why I wrote it. Comments and feedback welcomed :D

“I got to thinking what it would be like to really wean ourselves off our addiction to money and consumerism and with the #OWS movement now out in full force campaigning for our rights to equality and justice I find myself thinking about it all over again. This process has showed me how much could be changed about our day to day lives if we didn’t use this kind of pervasive and perverse system. I think it can be handy, even just as an intellectual exercise if nothing else, to try to step outside the money way of thinking to allow mental space for the possibility of something new to grow. Just as science fition often becomes science fact, given enough time. I don’t claim to hold all the answers and there is so much out there I do not know enough about, but here is my 2 cents on the subject in the small hope it might help someone out there in a better position than I to do something about it”.

Niamh Brown is now Google+ Compliant

Hej Folks,

I’ve been recently converted to Google+ and thought it was about time I mentioned it on my main website. I’ve not been all that well recently so I haven’t had much time for website updates but I thought I’d mention it as it is where most of my web activity is right now as it’s so easy and conveniant.

If there are any major updates then i will continue to post them here when I can, but for day to day sharing of things and public commenting I’m doing that on G+. As my husband +Raymond Kingdon said: ‘Facebook is for handling the past, Google+ is for handling the Future’

You can find me at G+ as +Niamh Brown or here: https://plus.google.com/101942254766672606204

As for other news I completed the final chapter in a collaborative book with 4 other Copenhagen writers and we hope to get it into print, so watch this space :D

New Blog Post: Coping with Chaos

Hej Folks,

Just a quick post to say I’ve written a new post on my blog ‘For The Hole Inside Everyone‘ called ‘Coping with Chaos‘.

It about a personal realisation I recently disocvered regarding my coping mechnaisums when I was dealing with and caring for my manic depressive father as a child, and how it has evolved over time to this day.

Web Update: New Subdomain at HubPages

Hej Folks,

I got an email in my inbox this week saying to pick my new sub-domain at HubPages before August 10th. I opened an account in February 2008 and wrote one piece for it and intended to clone some of my other articles up there but never got round to it (like some of my other affiliates).

They found that sub-domains help boost SEO ranking in the Google search engine so I figured I might as well get the sub-domain I wanted, so here you can see my new HubPages profile and my one hub: Distributed Organization Tools, talking about 5 different ways to organise yourself on-line (before I got converted to OneNote). I’ve also updated the links in my Publications page with the new web address and since I created the new sub-domain I thought I might as well write it up here ;-)

As for other things I had a very good meet up with my writers group in Copenhagen today, we are 7 chapters into a 10 chapter novella where we are doing 2 chapters each. The story that is emerging is really interesting and it great to write together in good company. Thanks weather for staying sunny and dry – my legs appreciate it!

Peace,

Niamh

New Blog Post: Moving From A Monoglot To A Polyglot Culture

Hej Folks,

Just a quick post to say I’ve written a new post on my blog For The Hole Inside Everyone called Moving From A Monoglot To A Polyglot Culture. This has been playing on my mind for sometime since the last time someone asked me why I’m shy and I don’t speak more Danish round our office in Copenhagen and this is the result of that thought a few weeks after the fact.

Also whilst I’m here I thought I’d say how it went at the Helium Competition at their Pulitzer Center. I was 3/12 at one point then my ranking dived bombed more badly than any of my other Helium articles, so I guess it shows you you should write what you know no matter how well you do your research! I was just hoping to win an iPad otherwise I wouldn’t have entered on that topic.

I also just brought my .com domain for my 6 book Science Fiction Series which is exciting (8 letters all one word, which is pretty good for a .com url these days). There probably won’t be much up there until I’m ready to launch the first book but it’s good to know I have it in reserve for when I’m ready; makes the project all that more real.

Anyways, that’s all folks for now!

Peace, Niamh

New Helium Article for the Pulitzer Competition: What are the best ways to engage young people in family planning?

Hej Folks,

As a writer at Helium I was sent a newsletter telling me about a current competition in their Pulitzer Center which can see the winning magazine articles published along with a prize of an iPad, something I really want as I want to play with Garage Band so I can start creating music for you all again (as I’m limited in what I can do on the guitar nowadays due to my medical condition).

I have entered the competition under the article title What are the best ways to engage young people in family planning?. I have to get into the top 4 to be considered for the winning spot. I’ll let you know when it goes once the winners are picked :)

Peace, Niamh

Niamh Brown now on Facebook!

Hej Folks,

Just a quick post. It only took me forever but I’m finally on Facebook. Out of all the tools I’ve used to try to manage quotes and links this seems to be the one that makes sense, as after a while of looking over everyone’s shoulder I can see finally how convenient Facebook is!

So from now on things like that will go here as well as general news and the artwork I create. Niamh News will continue as it has done but I’m just moving some of the functionality from word press and delicious to Facebook to make it easier for me in the long run. Often I forget to update my quotes or links page for example so I’m hoping this will allow me to collect as I go instead :)

Peace, Niamh

New Niamh Poetry Gifts: Compounded

Hej Folks,

Some of you may know my previous short poem called “Insane World” which I turned into a gift store on cafepress. I recently came up with another short poem inspired by Buddhist philosophy of the noble truths. I’ve created a new cafepress store called compounded, for this new 6 word poem which I personally find a useful day to day reminder.

The poem goes:

(We are all)

Compounded Conditions Continually Changing in Circles

New Blog Post: What a Little Kindness Will Do…

Hej Folks,

I had a little incident this week that moved me so I decided to write about it in my blog For The Hole Inside Everyone. The post is called ‘What a Little Kindness Will Do‘ and it’s about how little things can get under our skin or turn our day around completely.

Enjoy :)
