Writer Bio

Niamh has been writing “seriously” since 2000 when she conceived the outline of her six book science fiction series, the first of which is now in its second draft.

“Since taking up my books writing for me has become an addiction of sorts. I write everyday. Often if I don’t write I feel out of place, like I haven’t touched base with something at the core of me that can only come out through the written word.”

Freelance Clients

Although I’m always looking for more opportunities to expand my client base, so far I’ve have written for Helium.com since the March 2007. Through their marketplace I pitched an article to DegreeSearch.org the next month and won (beating several other writers and earning my first royalty check) entitled ‘Things you should know before pursuing a degree in information technology and computers‘.

In October 2008 my Article ‘Tips for digital camera cold weather photography‘ made the front page at Helium.com as well. Since Helium I’ve branched out to other affiliates that accept my work although I’m moving more into tradtional paying markets now.

Technical Writing

I’ve been drafting technical documentation since 1999 including formal design methods such as SSADM, DSDM, UML/OO and Agile. My documentation skills have been widely appreciated all the way back to my university days, where my System Modelling assignment was taken on as a model example for future classes (By a professor that was leaving shortly after I did and had no reason to update her material except for the fact I impressed her). I have a first class degree (Hons) in Internet Technology and my project received a mark of 85%, which included over 500 pages of documentation.

I’ve managed to document many existing computer systems in the IT industry which has proved an invaluable resources for all my employers. I’ve also planned and documented the entire life cycle of application designs, web projects and database schemas.

I’ve provided project and statistical reports, flow charts, Gantt charts, user manuals, support documentation, web content, policies, minutes, agendas, handbooks and newsletters when required.

I’m familiar with documentation packages such as Rational Rose, Acrobat, Smart Draw, KB Publisher, Wiki’s, Writer’s Cafe, MS Visio, Project, One Note, Power Point, Word and Excel among others.

Further Experience

I’ve also written for free at  WordPress.com with my blog ‘For the Hole Inside Everyone‘, which I hope to submit to the lulu blooker prize some time in the future, and also a newly created blog Passion For Poker, which collects my poker experiences and provides free resources for armature players.

When I lived in York, England I took advantage of the Read Write York scheme and the York Literature Festival attending lectures, readings and groups in the area. I hope to find something similar here in Denmark too.

I love books, film and some TV, which I like to review. I keep a diary (of many volumes) and have written songs for the guitar in the past, which is a hobby I’m starting to pick up again.

My favourite genres are sci-fi, some fantasy, fiction (except crime and horror), poker, philosophy, health & self help, writing and writers, reviews, cooking and baking, auto/biographies and journals.
