Just a quick post. It only took me forever but I’m finally on Facebook. Out of all the tools I’ve used to try to manage quotes and links this seems to be the one that makes sense, as after a while of looking over everyone’s shoulder I can see finally how convenient Facebook is!
So from now on things like that will go here as well as general news and the artwork I create. Niamh News will continue as it has done but I’m just moving some of the functionality from word press and delicious to Facebook to make it easier for me in the long run. Often I forget to update my quotes or links page for example so I’m hoping this will allow me to collect as I go instead 🙂
Some of you may know my previous short poem called “Insane World” which I turned into a gift store on cafepress. I recently came up with another short poem inspired by Buddhist philosophy of the noble truths. I’ve created a new cafepress store called compounded, for this new 6 word poem which I personally find a useful day to day reminder.
The poem goes:
(We are all)
Compounded Conditions Continually Changing in Circles

Well like I’ve said before in my review of 2009 and resolutions of 2010 I have joined a writing group in Copenhagen and we are meeting every 2 months. Today was the first meeting. We each sent a piece of our work beforehand so we could give feedback in the meet up. My piece was the prologue and first chapter of my science fiction series. This is the first time I’ve shared my fictional work outside immediate family and the feedback was really positive.
There was a couple of pointers and one wanted to chew on it a bit before giving feedback as it wasn’t her usual genre, but the general responce was that everyone wanted to read more and felt the characters were believable (the pointers I did get was also really useful too). I can’t say how much of a confidence boost this has been, but not only that; I got to make 5 friends today and I feel there is a great group dynamic that could prove a fertile breeding ground to help me make the next step up in my writing life. I even did a bit of networking by giving my calling card to a couple of people with my website etc.
Today I felt for the first time that this could be real. One of the ladies was an experienced journalist who had written for TV, radio and newspaper/magazines in a number of topics. She gave me the best compliment which was that she thought it worked as a concept and that she could see no reason why it couldn’t be in print. I have to say I’m over the moon (and, of course, compulsively wrote about it since its my nature heh)
Hope you all had as good a weekend as I have 😀
I just wanted to drop a line to say that I’m taking this week off from writing and the website as I hit my 3rd week slump at work and I’m exhausted. This always seems to happen to me as for the first two weeks I’m fuelled with that nervous energy about taking in loads of information, trying to get everything right and get accepted into a new group etc. But whenever I hit the third week I always seem to crash.
Last week I also didn’t sleep well as I went rather manic trying to get everything done in the weekend on the website I wanted, it kept me up until 4am both nights which is my only chance to catch up on sleep lost during the week.
I’m having to get up much earlier here than in the UK. It seems that most work places in Denmark are geared towards those with kids who would like to see them before the sun goes down, but this means that I have to go against my natural sleep patterns more. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I do have to make sure I take this into account and not do so much at the weekend that I’m not actually resting.
Anyway, I don’t want to rant too much about it, I just thought I’d let you know that things will go ahead as planned from next weekend when I should have more to report.
Hope you are all well,
I’ve been spending the last few weeks preparing my central site ahead of my writing submissions that should be starting shortly (my first short story just has a few edits by my brilliant proof reader of a partner and I’m ready to send it off)
I’ve finally got the first stage of the revamp done, which was updating the copy based on my new situation at home and work, reducing the menu to only what is relevant right now and setting up this new news blog. You might even notice there is a new image of me on the top left! 😉
The home page is now this blog so when you go straight to the root domain you can see all the latest news for the revamp straight away now. If you subscribe to the RSS feed you can get all news direct to your reader too.
Anyway this is all I can think of right now to say about it. The next revision should have a lot more code/db work done to it. However check out the menu links on the site, or the pages on this blog (they are the same pages) as a lot of the copy there has been revised (that is of course if your interested!)
It occurred to me this week that today ten years ago was the first time I walked into my own apartment and started my journey into adulthood.
It amazing to me as I look back on those times how this humble beginning would a decade later lead me to where I am now; in a beautiful Scandinavian house in the country, to finding my partner (we met at university, which this first course allowed me to get into) and to a high paying job in another country!
They say it take 10 years to get really good at something…it’s nice to break that barrier for the first time in my life in a professional environment.
Only a year later in 2000 did I start to write ‘seriously’ so I think it will be an interesting year for my writing too.
Go me! 😉
This is just a quick post to say what this blog is all about. I’ve started this blog ahead of my site revamp, which I’m doing ahead of new writing submissions this year, to make my site more professional looking for those interested in purchasing my writing.
Those who may know me maybe wondering, not another blog she already has three! Well it’s not really a new blog, it’s a new news blog. The MySpace Blog I’ve been using for general news for nearly 2 years has become tiresome to use. I only really log into MySpace now to do news updates and since I’m letting go of the affiliate/profile model of generating money it made sense to let go of this too.
In rethinking the Niamh Brown site my love of Word Press has led me create a replacement here, as I can manage them all under one roof in a much easier format. I will be updating my MySpace profile with my new Bio, which will be coming shortly but not just yet.
I doubt I’ll repost the old news here, but I’ll link to the MySpace blog so you can get back to earlier work if your interested, but I quite like the idea of a clean slate now I’m stepping up a gear in my writing career.
I will be keeping my ‘For the Hole Inside Everyone‘ blog, which is going to be on a low priority for now, but it will still collect my reflections and thoughts as I journey through life that I feel might help others (and should latter become a blook). I felt I didn’t want to dilute it with the news items spanning all my work/life. This separation issue was the only reason I kept the MySpace blog going as long as I did, but now I feel this solution is the best of both worlds.
Well, as for my first piece of writing news I’m currently typing up a short story I’ve written on the train to work over the past week in my new job (It’s going really well so far) and I should be editing it and submitting it shortly to various markets once I’ve updated the copy on my website a bit more. More news on that shortly.
Anyway this is it for now. Feel free to add this blog as an RSS feed as this will be the one stop shop for knowing everything going on in the Niamh Network!
